Once again, Olympus and ClubSNAP are working together to bring you another event.

Been slightly over a year since the wireless flash technology is now built into new camera bodies since the introduction of the flagship camera body E-3, and if I am not wrong, the wireless flash control capabilities range from 9-12 flash guns control in groups of 3-4.

What is going to happen is that we are going to take these flash guns out for a spin, and shoot a human subject like you would if you are out with your buddies in the evening and play around with create flashgun techniques.

I will attempt to show you some of my own very tried and tested "strobing styles" and hope that this will help you open up your creativity when working with multiple lights.

Here are some of the details :

Happening on : 2nd May 2009 (Saturday)

Location : To be determined, but most likely near City Hall (have shelter if it rains)

Time : 5pm till 10pm (have an hour of fun to demonstrate FP mode)

What is it about? : Wireless Flash on the E-System and having fun with it. (Creative strobing) Hope to also see the new flash brackets and the FP-4 on that day.

For who? : If you have a FL-xxR flashgun and wants to learn more... or those who have long ago signed up for the Great Singapore Flash Bang, this is to build the foundation leading to that... I have not given up on using a massive amount of flash light for a night shoot... still my dream... doesn't matter if I do it or someone else... just want to see that happening...

What MIGHT happen at the event : Suggesting to Olympus to bring down 3-6 FL-50Rs, and after the event, they clear it at a special low price... so bring your ATM cards or cash!

What is happening that day : Assemble at specified place on that day, do some FP day fills with FL-50Rs. There will be a model at the event for you guys to shoot. Try out different settings on the flashguns. I will demonstrate some techniques and try out some new things as well. Its about learning and sharing together. So this is primarily for E-System users who have always wanted to learn more about using your FL-xxR flashguns. I will be bringing down my own FL-36R and it is one of my favourite little flash head.

4:00pm - MUA, model and helpers to assemble, brief, get things set up.
5:00pm - Assemble, start a simple shoot. Backlight to subject, flash in FP mode.
6:30pm - Change settings, ready to catch sunset light and use flash to fill in for model.
7:30pm - Break for some makan. Model rests. Short discussions. Setup to change for using multiple flash heads for lighting up a particular area.
8:30pm - Start the night fashion shoot. Model to change, and use street as "set" with multiple flashguns set to wireless mode and let the fun begin.
9:45pm - Wrap up, equipment count, go home.
10:00pm - Our usual supper time.

I am sure everyone will walk away from this event becoming more confident with using strobes for night shoots and more people will collaborate together (and share flashguns) to do some very creative night shooting (since the weather is always nicer at night).

Wedding and event photographers will definitely learn a few tricks of the trade from me for my editorial work with my off camera flash techniques.

This event will show you the concept of using strobes for creative lighting and after this event, I hope to see more people becoming more confident in using their flashguns in more creative ways. There will be a follow up mini event among ourselves to come together again and shoot every few weeks to start our "training" for the Flash Bang project. Sounds good everyone?
