Basically, 2 ways of doing it. 1. Use bigger aperture eg. f2.8, but pics may not be that sharp all round ie the duckling may be soft.. Another way which in this case is to choose a background ie. move around the subject and scan the background. This case the background is the green a pond behind, make sure no reflection (I prone down) and the background must not be too near or else details of it will come out. Hope it helps.

Look at the intensity of the stares in the first pic. Seems to saying "DON'T MUCK WITH ME!!"
