I've heard from some camera shop owners that some Sony lens that model started with DT (for example DT 18-250mm, DT 16-105mm) are not suitable to use on A900. They said it can fit into A900 but the image quality will drop.
I asked why is this so but they couldn't give me a good answer, and said that they also heard from somebody else. I tried searching for this question online and in clubsnap forum, but couldn't get an answer too. So is this true or just a rumour? Anyone knows? ![]() Last edited by km1980; 16th April 2009 at 09:08 AM. |

DT are cropped models and are designed to work with aps-c sensored bodies (the a100/200/300/350/700). Using them on a900 will give you heavy vignetting results.

when coupled with A900, the megapixels of the resulting image will be reduced coz these DT lens only use the center part of the sensor, so u wun get the full 23MP that A900 offers. So the image quality drop but u can only perceive this drop when zoom in the pic fully.

@TS, This is the same even with the Nikon FX cameras (in case your friends tell you there's no problem on Nikon). If you mount a DX lens, you'll only make use of the center portion of the sensor. If you did a google search for "A900 DT lenses" you would have found many many helpful threads, such as: http://www.flickr.com/groups/sony_al...7607251549633/ And an example of using a DT lens is here: http://dcuser.net/sony/sony-a900-alp...ouncement.html

Wow thanks for all the replies! I was thinking to upgrade to A900 soon but just realize that my DT 18-250mm is not suitable according to a camera shop owner.
I got another question, is there a better Sony lens to recommend if I will to use A900 for a wedding dinner? |

You can use the lens on the A900 - no problem at all... you just use 11MP instead of 24.5MP. The camera will automatically switch for you. For dinners, it depends on what you're looking for... if it's just a simple snapshot type of coverage (where you're not the main photographer), then the 18-250mm will do... if you're shooting for a friend and it is important to your friend, then I suggest, get a pro to do it or someone with more experience... you don't sound as if you've been shooting long enough... A 24-70mm on the A900 would be very good for dinners... Try either the KM 28-75mm or Tamron 24-135mm. The first lens is only available 2nd hand, the latter can be bought new but must order I think. Or if money is no object, then either CZ 24-70mm f/2.8 or the Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8, the first costs $2400, the latter $1000+... |
