Default Pancakes!

I am using Nikon currently, considering buying a E-420 as I find my D300 too large to lug around, unless I am going somewhere specifically for shooting.

Was thinking of the the E-420+ the 25mm f2.8 pancake lens. I have some questions on this now though.

Are there any other pancake lenses I can use with the E-420? anything faster, like a 28mm f1.4? I am not looking for exotic high priced lenses, just something I can use for street photography.

Finally, what is the price of the 25mm f2.8 if I buy it separately, new or used? I am getting the feeling it might be more economical to buy the E-420 body separately, and the pancake separately, as the 'kit' price seems high.

There is only 1 pancake at the moment 25mm F2.8, unless you are willing to use adaptor and get pentax pancake.

Actually, I read there's another pancake in the Zuiko OM line: 40mm f2.0. But I've yet to see one in action.

Maybe you'll like to look at the Pentax camp instead.

DA Limited 70mm f2.4

And of course, the other option is the FA Limited

FA Limited 43mm f1.9

the ZD50/f2 is pretty small compared to similar offerings on other systems.

Not really a pancake, but its a small good fast portrait / macro lens and probably the sharpest lens that most of us can afford.

please take note of 43 magnification factor of 2x if you are coming from Nikon camp. 25mm is 50mm.

Thanks! I realized it and thats why the 25mm looks like a useful lens to me as it would be the old 50mm on Oly. I also looked through the pricelist for Oly lenses and saw there was a fairly inexpensive 75-300mm. That would be a 600mm lens! In other brands, you will need a 400mm to get 600mm reach, and the 400mm lenses tend to be rather expensive, so a definite advantage for wildlife shooters.

The 70-300mm is surprisingly sharp, especially since it's a standard grade lens.

I'm continually surprised that Olympus won't put money into primes but that they also put out zooms that are both useful and fairly light that can be used in place of primes with similar high image quality.

Hi all,

I find the screw-cap of the 25mm F2.8 pretty irritating... is there an after-market lens cap akin to the usual lens cover/cap for the 43mm thread?

Thanks.

If you can find a conventional 43mm lens cap, it'll fit.

Hi there,

I use the pancake lens and i did away with the screw cap, opting for a third party 43mm cap from a shop from peninsula plaza. Go take a look at the different shops, the cap should be going for about 10 bucks.
