Default Bombers in Flight Formation

Taken at Penguin Island. There is a colony of Pelican on this island and they would occassionaly take off and land in formation around the island. Penguin Island is south of Fremantle near the coastal town, Mandurah in Western Australia.

initially, if it was another person shooting, i thought it was a joke, that birds were "bombing" in a formation, but after i saw the first pic.... I simply it!

Mr Chng, you're simply getting better with each post!

Welcome back 1st and 3rd are the nicest. (1st pic I suppose you can add in a bit of blue sky in front of the lead bird, but it doesn't bother me)

As usual, Australia seems to have clear blue skies almost all the time... unlike Singapore (if you returned home on Sat/Sun, you would have been welcomed by the rain...)

Thanks guys. Yes glad to be back, miss the food here after more than a week of fish and chips and sandwiches. I spent a large portion of my time in Rottnest Island, moving out early at about 6.30am and cycle 5km with all my gears (more than 10kg) to catch the Osprey and cycle 5km back by 6pm. Had to walk on one of the days as my bike had a punctured tyre, (worst than going on field exercise) . That's one of the fun thing about nature photography.

Thanks Wai, the penguins are out at the sea in the day and return only at night, no visitors to the island at night last ferry out is about 5pm. No real close up as I had no time to switch lens.

Erwinx, I was not so fortunate (blue sky) at Rottnest island as I had a day of rain, 2 days of cloudy condition, just my luck. but overall had a great time and new learning experience. Also agree with you on giving more space to the lead Pelican in the first picture, guess I was greedy in trying to squeeze as many Pelicans into the frame.

Once again thanks, Avatar, MaGixShOe, Oevyind, plsoong, sk_online and Seh Suan for your comments.

Cheers

Beautiful flight shots.
You can tell that some of the pelicans are successful in their forays. Four of them are coming back with their pouches full.

I like your first shot even though composition could be better in giving the lead bird more space. I guess if you have more days there, you might get that shot after all as they have a big colony there. Did you see a big colony of terns on that island?

Cheers

Welcome back, chngpe01, seems like you had a very fruitful trip DownUnder.

Luv the first 2 shots of the pelicans formation, clean and detailed, really look like aerial bombers on a mission (for fish?) Nice work, look forward to more shots from u.

Hi Steven, Can't see any tern colony at all, spotted a few Caspian and Crested terns only. If not for the Pelicans, I think it would have been a disappointed trip to the island.

I'm amazed! Great series. I esp like how you managed to obtain the kind of sharpness. Wonderful blue sky too!
