Default Ospreys of Rottnest Island - 1st of a Series.

Just a couple of pics to start off this series. The rest will follow once I sorted the rest of my pictures.

Comments most welcome.

Cheers

Love the unique way this one is composed, the "diagonal split" complements the subject very well. Good one chngpe01!

Looks like you got very harsh side lighting and unable to fill in flash. Did you locate the nest?

Cheers

I'm guessing he's using the 2x converter and its too far away for fill flash, especially given the harshness of sidelight.

Chngpe

The shadow areas on the Osprey are very dark but I know how difficult it is to photograph them (just that one NPS member made it look so easy ) You may wish to use RAW EV compensation to brighten it further. To make sure its not my monitors fault i saved the pic and used the eyedropper tools to get an estimate of the RGB values and they appear to be a bit low. Great that you got close enough (I couldn't...)

Yes the lighting is slanted more towards the side and rear. And at 9.30am it can be quite harsh. Yes Graeme, really made it look so easy, but then he is really good. In fact I came back a bit disappointed that I couldn't get what I wanted, the perfect shot. But then it was a very good learning experience, I will certainly go back again to chase for the prefect shot the next time.

I think the weather, time of the day and your location of shoot plays a big role in getting your shot. Definitely look forward to heading there again.
