Default Do you take caps off lens/cams in dry cabinets?

Just wondering. Is it a good idea to remove the caps from lenses and cameras when you put them in a dry cabinet? Would this help to keep the insides more dry? Or would it cause any problems later?

Can anyone advise?

I've read sometime ago somewhere (can't find the source anymore) that fungas can't grow below a RH at a temperature (that's why they call it 'relative' humidity) Which if I don't remember wrongly is about 80% at room temperature or somewhere there.

So keeping the settings at a constant RH, it really doesn't matter much if you remove the caps or not. Advise though for lenses that protrude when zooming is to 'change' the humid air in the lens by zooming and unzooming a few times before popping it into the cabinet.

Lastly, I think since the fungas issue has been looked after what we must watch out for is rather not to dry the lubs in the components with a too low RH.

Hope it helps

with error margin 40% ought to be fine. The recommended range for camera equipment falls from 40 to 55%.

IMO, I would say that for most camera equipment , below 30 would be too low.
