Could you kindly post some pictures taken with the 18-180 zuiko lens? It seems that I have difficulty taking sharp pics with this lens..my hand shakes a lot and the image stabiliser is not so effective with Olympus camera (be it e510,e520 or e30).
Should I get better lens? |

Hi achanth,
This lens definitely can still take sharp images , just that the right settings (ISO, aperature, shutter speed) must be applied accordingly to the environment. As for the IS, believe in E510,E520 or E30, you can set the focal length that u are using the IS for. However, this lens is not a HG lens so not sure how sharp is the sharpness you are looking or which lens you are comparing with. Below is a thread also about this lens. http://www.clubsnap.com/forums/showthread.php?t=294934 |

i also recently got an 18-180mm from a guy here in clubsnap. the images are not as sharp as HG lenses, but the images are good enough for everyday use, especially when shot with a tripod. im using it with an E-420 so its sometimes hard to get it sharp (due to lack of IS), but if for normall use with bright light it's pretty good. just keep in mind of the limitations of a megazoom... range is great but it has to be in the right conditions, or learn to compensate with the settings. im also still learning how to make the most out of it
btw for sample shots, go to flickr and search for "zuiko 18-180" Last edited by napalmdog; 13th April 2009 at 03:47 PM. |

Here's a review of the lens for those interested... The reviewer's opinion is pretty much what has been discussed.
http://www.biofos.com/esystem/1818_tst.html Sharp images is not dependent on the lens alone. ![]()

some images taken with my 18-180 on an E-420, handheld. it just rained and cloudy, time about 6pm, not the best of conditions to shoot with this lens. while not super sharp, its good enough (for me at least). however i had to underexpose to speed up shooting and avoid blurring.
![]() about 40% crop ![]() zoomed, about 90% crop. contrast adjusted ![]() quite a number of my shots were soft or oof, maybe 10-20%. but i dont regret getting it, the range is just too handy esp for travel Last edited by napalmdog; 14th April 2009 at 02:57 AM. |

This is my travel lense for the past travels. I am not sure if I am going to change it now. The weight and the reach is amazing. The image quality is not the top, however. But I do have fun taking picture the whole day. Not sure if I still have the strenght if I was using some other heavier lense.
Was using it with e-330 originally and later e-3 before I bought more lense. http://picasaweb.google.com/aryantos...lShootNearQBar Some landscape shot might be done using 11-22mm lense but not that many. Some of the landscape shots are taken from moving bus at low light (cloudy or near sunset). I went with normal "rush" tour, and not photography tour. http://picasaweb.google.com/aryantos/ChinaLandscapes Some street shots in China were taken from within a moving bus. Some are edited (perspective, skewing etc) http://picasaweb.google.com/aryantos/Thaipusam2008 http://picasaweb.google.com/aryantos/ChinaStreetshots http://picasaweb.google.com/aryantos...wersAndAnimals http://picasaweb.google.com/aryantos/ChinaBuilding http://picasaweb.google.com/aryantos/ChinaBeauties05 http://picasaweb.google.com/aryantos/ChinaBicycles Last edited by aryanto; 14th April 2009 at 09:14 AM. |
