Only been with the camera since yesterday.

Generally for the past 2 days I have been taking pics using RAW which enables the adjustment of most of the settings (white balance, exposure etc.) later.

But to save time in post processing I use the following settings:

ISO - depends on situation (so far used 800 to 1250)
Images - RAW Nef uncompressed
WB - Auto (but I realise this is not accurate and tends to over exaggerate...will be using the default modes.)
Tone Comp - Auto
Colour Mode: II Adobe SRGB (has the most spectrum of colours)
Images Sharpening: Auto
Hue Adjustment: 0

On top of this...I've also loaded the camera with customised curve to solve the problem of slight underexposure. More details can be found at http://www.planetneil.com/nikon/d100-customcurves.html

So far with some adjustments to the WB, the pics are great!!!! Will post them soon.

There's still lots to explore and experiment...will update when there's new discoveries.

Have posted a pic taken with the settings mentioned before at the gallery under portaits. The title is "An advertisement poster using graduation pic..." There is slight loss in the colours and tones due to conversion to jpeg. Taken under available light.

if the shots taken in AdobeRGB, have to convert to sRGB for web viewing and printing...so far, only uses bank A (AdobeRGB)...but bank B set to sRGB II for landscape...

for me, i only use the function dial for quick change of wb, image quality and ISO...

i'm using the custom curves from fotogenic's point-n-shoot (dated 29 Dec 2002 version - find it the best curve so far, after trying all other curves), plus a little adjustments to suit my preference...

only shoots in jpeg nowadays, but will shoot in raw when doing macro..
