My first sighting of the Rufous Woodpecker - and there were three (3) of them - one male and two females... definately made my day !
Was waiting for a WBSE for over 40 mins to fly off (for flight shots) but gave that up to shoot the Rufous(es) when they flew by and hopped around in a nearby tree. And what happens? The WBSE took off less than 2 minutes after I shiftted my tripod... sigh... ![]() but the Rufous(es) were worth it ! especially when I had shot the WBSEs last 2 days already ! #1: Male Rufous Woodpecker - with small red patch behind/below the eyes... ![]() #2: The two (2) female Rufous Woodpeckers... The females are distinguished from the males by the lack of a red patch behind/below the eyes... One lucky guy Rufous !!! ; ) ![]() #3: Female 1 ![]() #4: Female 2 ! ![]() |
