Thanks for the reminder to take the old post off the Asian Geo www. unfortunately this has not happen yet.

It's the same competition btw. The prices are updated and the entry details as well. also study the new terms and conditions which should be more favorable to the photographers. The competition is not free anymore and is available with automated online entries now.

Dear Ilyas,

You are right about the 5D MK2.

But, to stay on the positive side: The prizes are more divers now, there are more chances to win and the value has gone up, not down. What looks like a downgrading to you, is a large upgrade. You can win not only a camera, but a whole kit and flight tickets and professional camera bags.

Yes, the Mark 2 is worth 3K or so, but now the first prize has doubled in value!!

If there are more questions, you can find me also on the competition blog.

Hi, it says in the rule that the photo must be RGB jpeg. Does it mean photos taken with sRGB are not allowed?

Yes, the entry should be Adobe RGB 1998.
However you can easily convert that from your RGB file in your postproduction software.

sRGB was invented by Microsoft and HP to synch the use of different Hardware components such as printers and monitors.

The Adobe RGB 1998 file standard has a wider gamut though and is still the number one choice when it comes to professional, commercial printing, as well as international file transfers.

Quote:
The Adobe RGB color space is an RGB color space developed by Adobe Systems in 1998. It was designed to encompass most of the colors achievable on CMYK color printers, but by using RGB primary colors on a device such as the computer display. The Adobe RGB color space encompasses roughly 50% of the visible colors specified by the Lab color space, improving upon the gamut of the sRGB color space primarily in cyan-greens.

The mentioned link is NOT valid anymore. It will be taken down this days anyhow. The competition is now online and the correct link is:

i am a little confused,

the old website wrote

ENTRY FORM AND SUBMISSION
The ASIAN Geographic 2009 "Asia Without Borders" photo competition is free to enter. Each contestant may enter any or all of the FOUR (4) categories, but is limited to a maximum of ONE (1) image submission per category.

All entries must be received before the deadline date of 30 September 2009. Please print out the entry form, making sure to fill out all applicable questions. Photo submissions accompanied by an incomplete form will be disqualified.

Attach the entry form with your CD/DVDs and send the package to:

Asian Geographic Magazines Pte Ltd
[Asia Without Borders 2009 Photo Competition]
No.1 Syed Alwi Road #06-01,
Song Lin Building Singapore 207628.

__________________________________________________ ____________________________

and now when i go to the new website where i need to pay before uploading, i do not really do that, can i go by the old website method??? because i dont have visa etc.

2) If i go by the new method, the 3 steps way and online method, do i need to send a dvd with my images?

Dont tell me the only way to submit is via online where need to pay by visa or others?

Yes, the old competition site is coming down.

Unfortunately there is an overlap at the Asian Geo office with their web-master and for us launching the online automated entry platform.

We are working on this problem to avoid further confusions, which should finally be solved any day.

In the name of Asian Geo I apologize for the confusion this has created amongst the people here.

Please stick to the http://www.awbphotocontest.com site to avoid complications.

Explore the site there if you have questions. Most of it should be explaint already. If there are still questions you can use the email contacts provided or interact through the blog on http://www.awbphotocontest.com/blog with me.
