Default Tamaron 28-75 + 5D Mark II

Hi all,

Any of my bros here using Tamron 28-75 with 5D MkII?

I just sold away my 17-85 IS and I'm thinking of getting the Tammy. And I may be using 5D II any time soon.

Can Tammy provide enough sharpness for resolution hungry 5D II? Or should I get 24-70L and eat Magge me for 6 months?

I'll be getting only f 2.8 zoom since my shoots are mostly indoors.

Pls advise bros.

Regards,
ST

i've used the tamron 28-75 before on a 400D and it already produces sharp images. i'm pretty sure it'll be even better on a 5D MKII.

It probably will not be better especially around the edges, and extreme corners. Expect some vignetting as well.

Full-frame (FX) lenses perform better on crop (DX) camera bodies like the 400D because of the reduced sensor area. The smaller sensor utilizes the centre of the lens, which is generally sharper.

However, the 28-75 being the predecessor of the excellent 17-50, it should give pretty decent optical performance.

Maybe I did mention before, I have a few years old Tamron 28-75. The motor getting louder. Still like the canon USM.

Hi Bros,

Is corner sharpness really important when taking potraits? I've found out that Tammy is better at center in full-frame and it'll improve when step down to f 4 or 5.6.

Tammy's distortion at wide is quite bad though, Canon is better at controlling the distortion.

How do you find the contrast of the picture produced by Tammy compare to Canon L? I really like the color from my L.

Regards,
ST

Tamron was faster and more silent that I had expected, which was a delight.

Sharpness and clarity are there too, in the centre and at the edges, another delight.

Only the colour and contrast doesn't look like an L, a bit yellow.

And it was taken on a 5D2.

Colour. I don't know how to put it, it's nicer to look at photos out of a Canon than slightly warm on a Tamron.

I had been using Tamron 28-75 on my 20D, subsequently 30D, and now on my 5DII... I also has EFS 17-55 f2.8 IS, 24-105... My own take is the color and AF is the only downside of Tamron to any of the Canon Zoom I had so far, sharpness is on par and better then the few zooms that I had. Vignetting is obvious at 28mm wide-open, and doesn't get ajusted with DPP (unlike Canon EF lens), but vignetting doesn't really bother me much. AF is decent, though more noisy then USM, hunt a bit at low light, but acceptable. The size & weight is a plus. Somehow I feel my Tamron color is a bit colder then L lens (unlike some other observation...), but the color is quite vibrant & punchy on my 5D2.

Definitely going to keep this lens as my main walk around, especially on 5D2. If you look around, could get a second hand copy for 1/4 the price of 24-70L.... That is good value to me, by any measure.

This might be the answer to your question. It's a review for the lens using Canon FF camera. -> http://www.photozone.de/canon_eos_ff...ron_2875_28_5d

Photozone is slowly releasing reviews for FF bodies! A little patience and you'll get a quality review!

Thanks bro. I've seen it.

They've rated quite poorly for the lens to couple with full frame. I think I better wait till 24-70L full frame review come out.

And I'm not surprised too... Anyway not considering Sigma 24-70/2.8 or the 24105L? Use flash lar, then get an 85/1.8 or 135/2 for low light work? Alternatively you've already got a 50/1.8 anyway

I don't see much differences between Sigma and and Tamron. Only thing Sigma filter is big and the whole lens is a bit pricier.

No to 24-105L because it is f4. Not what I need.

I'm not really enjoyed of using my 50 1.8. The focus accuracy is quite low and I need to step down to f2.8+ to get absolute sharpness. So this lens is for emergency.

ST
