What lens are you using with the Raynox? Grasshopper seems a bit small..

Also take note of the lighting and shadow.

hello Glador, and thank you.

i was using my 18-55kit lens vr with d60.

also, how do you think i can improve on my lighting and shadow?

another question, will getting the 105mm micro lens improve my reach, that is with the raynox 250, or do i still have to get really close?

1) To improve your lighting and shadow you will need to use flash (onboard/external) and a diffuser to take your macro pics. You don't seem to have used the flash for this pic though.

2) Raynox DCR250 when used with any lens will shorten the focusing distance to ard 12 cm. With the 105 Micro lens, for larger insects, you will not need to use the Raynox. For this hopper, you wouldn't need the Raynox either since the hopper is probably more than 2cm in length.

hey there, i did use a flash, sb600, with a large bounce card.

the grasshopper was about 1 cm in length btw. I was really close.. really really close. I think it has got a worm infection on one of its hind legs btw.

Maybe you can lower the flash power as well. Normally, I use 1/4 or 1/8.

I think you should use a diffuser instead of a bounce card with your external flash. Do you have a built in flash with your D60? If you have use that intead.

The built in flash is actually better because it is lower than your external flash when it is mounted on your D60. Because it is lower, the light diffused from the built in flash will be able to better reduce the shadows around your subject.
