Default Rufous Backed Kingfisher - Low perch view

This one is a very tame individual and is more afraid of noise from vehicles than humans.

Managed to spend quite a few good weekends getting pictures of this small beautiful forest kingfisher.

Nikon D300, 600mm AFS, 1.4X TC, F8, 1/10s, ISO 800, Matrix Metering, Rear Curtain Slow Sync at GN=2.8m.

Harl's flashing always top notch, his lighting skills should be emulated by all.

i am very curious over certain things. Is flash important for birding ? If yes why ? since the subject is so far away.

Can the light reach the subject.

Is these shot taken with tripod ?

Rgds
