Good first try. The focus is about right, with some misses, but the lens quality is abit poor. Which close up lens are you using? For better quality, go for the achromatic ones...abit more costly but IQ is good.
For single element lens, good for the center, poor at the edges. So if you crop out the edges it is still ok sometimes.

you can google on acrhomatic: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Achromatic_lens So these lens are better made lens with better IQ. Not used to define macro lens.
