Default Brown Throatted Sunbird

From the look of it, I am quick sure it is a Brown Throatted Sunbird. Correct me if I was wrong. C&C appreciated.

Went back this morning to redo some shots. This time the flash was tuned lower (half strength) and the results are more pleasing (I think).

Again C&C welcome.

NineEleven,
Yes, it appeared at almost the same spot. Birds usually go back to their fav spot to hunt of food.

Are you using canon speedlite? If so, press Mode button till it shows M, and press the Sel /Set button followed by "-" till you see 1/2 (half strength). Press Se/SET again to confirm and that's all. I also set the Zoom button to 50mm to cover bigger area to spread out the flash.

I am also quite new in this so I might be wrong..just experiment with it.

Raymond

Hi Raymond

Are you using your 70-200 f2.8 len? Wow! the picture is very sharp and colour is so brilliant. Are you very close to the bird? Sorry that I asked so many questions as I hope to learn the skills. Thanks.

HI Pcool,
Thanks alot for the kind words. I am using my new 400 f5.6L. But I am sure the 200mm f2.8L can do just the same but the bird is a little smaller. I was about 8 - 10 feet from the bird and it did not mind the flash firing at half strength. My setting : ISO 400, f8, 1/250. Flash -2EV.

Raymond

Not bad. At such close distance, I would set the flash way down to -3EV especially for birds with reflective feathers like this.

Thanks to DeSwitch. Will try that in my next shoot.
Good luck to you, pcool. I was in your same shoe when I started doing birding. Just don't be shy to experiement, and practise more.
