Hi all fellow Alpha Users,
I believe there has been many similar questions raised by fellow Cser on the benefits of choosing alpha and also any weakness that they should look out for. Perhaps we can summarize a list to facilitate their queries and season Alpha users can share their inputs and opinion also. Lets be as specific as much as possible and not be too generalize (E.g. Don't just put 'Poor for studio use', define the weakness and shortfall directly). P.S. If this list becomes comprehensive, perhaps mod can consider to sticky it in the future. Are you a Alpha user? perhaps could start the ball rolling by offering your own opinions first. Last edited by billpepsi; 3rd April 2009 at 11:58 AM. |

Sorry i find it silly to have such a thread for weakness & strength for particular brand.
(Further more as a sticky.) 1) It'll be unfair for this brand as it is based on personal opinion. 2) Other than that different models of Alpha have different strength & functions. 3) Other than the camera body, it also depends on what lens you are using & how proficient you are at operating your camera. 4) It might misled the beginners when they are deciding their 1st DSLR. If you are an user of a particular Alpha model, then you might like to start a thread on user group discussion on the functions, advantages and stuff like that.

Didn't we already have "why alpha?" threads in the past?

No brand is perfect. Just get a camera you're comfortable with and enjoy shooting ...

The above link will give you a honest feedback from a user and his experience with the Sony Alpha system. Some users have also contributed their view and opinions. Last edited by obewan; 4th April 2009 at 05:31 PM. |

I think for most common opinion gathered from those who deal and play with different brands is that Alpha picture color is more vibrant but tends to give more noise on high iso.
None perfect nor cheap. Quality comes with price for all brands. Settle with the brand you are comfortable or suit your priority.

The weakness lies in the people.
S'poreans generally are quite pedantic. Good camera must mean C or N. When uninformed consumers ask for advice, they'd still buy those brands eventually because "most people buy those brands". The other weakness lies not so much in the product, but the brand itself. "...but I heard that Sony cameras are no good, leyy...." Again, it's the misconception of the general public. Sony cameras = Cybershot. And the Cybershot brand is synonymous with style-over-substance. How many people know of Alpha's Minolta heritage? How many people know that Sony has tremendous experience manufacturing sensors for high-end video devices? How many people know that many of Nikon's camera sensors are manufactured Sony? These are the major obstacles that the company faces. It's not so much the hardware itself. (I've always maintained that Minolta were at least as good as, if not better than C or N. The only thing Minolta lacked was marketing power).
