Default Tamron 18-250

As per the Price of Lens thread, the cost of Tamron
AF 18-250mm f/3.5-6.3 Di-II LD : MS $699 JO $690

This appears a great bargain. and I plan to make it my everyday lens.
How is this lens as compared to 18-200 from Canon.
As this is 300$ economical, doeas it make a value buy ?
Or is the quality inferior ?

Please advise.

Why not consider Tamron 18 - 270mm lens instead? U can read the reviews about these lens from www.dpreview.com 1st, not forgetting that there's a new Sigma 18 - 250mm lens due to launch soon, watch for it!

Yup, Will check for reviews for Sigma 18-250.
Tammy 18-270 is at par in price with Canon 18-200, so not so attractive.

I won't suggest Canon 18-200 as the quality is only so so but for the same pricing, I rather get Tamron (longer range too!)... still, depend on what you are shooting. Most of the time, I seldom zoom so far, it's just a matter of "good to have".... :P

Don't forget the Canon 18-200mm has IS while the Tamron 18-250mm does not have VC (Tamron's version of stabilisation). If you need VC you have to get the Tamron 18-270mm

Have use the Tamron 18-270 for 2 months, the pro and con are very true in most of the review (almost 100% matches). But I must say it depend what u are shooting lor...... for me is a very good lens to have for walk about and travel without having to bring many lens with u.

How about nature scenery and some sport shots? Was considering to buy 2 lens but this single lens cover pretty well the zoom I need. I take mainly scenery and some sport shots at time thought Any real user here who use it to shoot scenery or sport. Will it be fast enough for sport and clear for scenery?
