newbie qn,
I am targeting for both lens (nikon mount) however the new 18-270 mm comes with macro fuction. Will buying 90mm duplicate the lens? |

The Tamron AF18-270mm F/3.5-6.3 Di II VC LD Aspherical [IF] MACRO has a reproduction ratio of 1 : 3.5, which is a far cry from the 1:1 that the Tamron SP AF90mm F/2.8 Di MACRO 1:1 can achieve.

I agree with Blur shadow. I have seen my friend's macro shots done with proper macro lenses... my own 18-270 can never get that kind of definition and clarity... so if macro is your pleasure, get the right lens for it.
Having said that.. if you are only a casual macro shooter, then the 18-270 is a great stay-on-camera lens for all-purposes. A quick look at the other 2 threads here will confirm this. ![]() |

You can actually the macro ability of the 18-270mm VC with a close-up filter, for instance. But there would be a decrease in IQ.

I'm not sure of the prices these days, so a call to your preferred photo shop may be a better idea.

I am starting to move from nikkor to other value for money lense
there seems to be another popular lense Tamron 17-50 f/2.8 - I have a 50 F1.8D now - will it a waste of money to get one.?? I am still learning on lens - sorry if there are stupid QN |
