is there anybody here who has encountered this problem before, camera cannot capture pictures and live view is not working? i tried to search in google, found several posts complaining about this problem, but no resolution. if you know how to fix this (aside from going to the service center), please let me know. thanks!

Ok in live view for my D300, the first half click makes the shutter close to FOCUS THE LENS. When it reopens, it is now focus, press the shutter release for the 2nd time and u will hear the mirror go up, this time it is really capturing the picture. This applies for shooting in "live view hand held mode" the first snap is for focus, the 2nd snap is for the shoot.

When you click the button do you hear the shutter? Did you use your camera in movie mode? How long? I heard that there are some problems with D90 when using the movie mode for a long time. The sensor overheats.

Hi redpixel, how about doing a factory reset and trying again if you haven't already? This might help in case if this issue is caused by any setting that were made inadvertently.
Good luck! |

hmm.. are you on AF-A or AF-S focus mode? if you are... and your subject did not focus, the shutter won't fire... try AF-C. it should fire even if it's not focus...

did you check whether you have a memory card in it ?
i try to snap photo during purchase, without memory card, the camera don't snap any photo as well... to see livemode, the sound is normal i guess, everytime i switch to livemode to do AF adjustment, i hear the sound. |

do you insert the battery and memory card? that is the most important part!! and remove the front cap of the lens.

thanks to all who replied.
i already brought my cam to the service centre. they need to check either the shutter or the sensor. most likely this was caused by sensor overheating. searched several forums, seems that this is a common problem for d90. the sensor overheats when using movie mode for a long time. i, however, did not use movie mode. but i used my live mode several times in the past few days and also took a lot of long exposure photos (plus the long noise reduction job for long exposures). i guess my sensor overheated because of all this. ![]()

for the long exposures, i think each shot took about 30secs or more, plus on-cam noise reduction of another 30secs or more. i used my cam for this type of shots for at least 3 straight hours in the past few days. ![]()

you can off your noise reduction option for faster image processing time.
