want to know any of you have tried this before. according to the owner, he used long exposure with pen-lght/led-light to write the words in air. please enlighten me if any of you have experience / reading material. http://chitown01.smugmug.com/photos/...9_k4uVD-XL.jpg Last edited by Francis247; 29th March 2009 at 10:39 PM. This technique is quite simple.
Simply find a setup dark enough. Set up your camera and plan what you want to write. Just turn on the shutter to allow for exposure, then walk over and start writing with the torchlight. Walk back and turn off shutter once the exposure for the background is sufficient.

what help do you need? light painting has no real material to read, basically, you need a dark place with not too bright lighting, you need a long exposure so that even when you are moving in the picture the RELATIVE fraction of time you are at each moment is so minimal that you do not show up. for example, if you shoot an exposure of 200 seconds, and people dash across in 2 seconds, they won't show up at all. if you imagine how the light paints itself onto your sensor, this is not a hard concept to grasp.
not just words, you can also make shapes, you can also "paint" objects to make them stand out with an unnatural glow, use your imagination, and there is so much you can do. for the more advanced people overseas (mainly because singapore doesn't really have that many abandoned buildings in secluded locations that is easily available), they have done stuff like this, involving gels, flashes, spotlights. i have done something involving light painting before when i was very bored, you can see the results here. it just really involves a lot of experimentation, when it comes "painting" objects. for writing words or other similar gimmicky stuff, you just do it, should be no problem at all.. ![]() |
