Hi,
I have a D90 and a 24-70mm f2.8 G, should I upgrade to D700 in view of its good iso performance, and being full frame? or to get a good wide angle lens like the 17-35mm or 14-24mm nikon f2.8? i like shooting landscapes, people and flowers ![]() |

Yes, if budget is not an issue. I upgraded from D80 to D700. No regrets.
![]() Only thing is you must have owned your D90 for a very very short while....maybe useful to realise the full potential of the D90 first? Just my 2 cents.

yup. With D800 coming out soon, the D700 price is very stable. And its almost as low as possible now. Go for it!

Sounds like you've got the cash. If you truly wish to utilize the wide angles, go for the D700. The FX advantage will be beneficial to you. The crop DX format eliminates much of the 14mm or 17mm advantage of the 2 lenses you mentioned.

D700 with 24-70f2.8 is very good range, wide enough. I believe this lens will stay on yr cam most of the time.

if $$$ is not an issue, why not keep the D90 as backup then buy the D700.

hm..
D700 just doesn't stop there with the 24-70.. perhaps soon u will find ur 24-70 not sufficient and want to get other pro lenses.. are u prepared to fork out the money for those pro compatible lenses to go along with ur D700? take note such lenses cost over 2k each.. and take into consideration what u are shooting is also very important as that determine what kind of lenses that u are buying.. my 2 cents.. ![]()

The D90 doesn't do the 24-70 any justice. Go for the D700!

Ya lor, the only thingy stopping me is that I had to change all my DX lens to FX lens.
Cos when using with D700 i need to crop the picture thus reducing the size of the picture liao. That is the only thingy stopping me, unless Sg toto or Sg 4D or Sg big Sweep will give me the divine number for the coming draws... But like all the guys are saying, this is definitely a great upgrade. |

Get use to D90 first before you want to upgrade. The question you sould ask is does D90 give me what I need, and what so important that you need D700 for?
D700 is a while new set of things u need. Like mentioned, with D700.. the trinity lens are now important, u will start to think of 14-24 f2.8 and the 70-200 f2.8.. becos Nikon for the pass years did not make good FX lens. In a way its quite limited if you need good optics. And the other parts are your DX lens. Luckily for me, I go for primes, so I have only two DX lens from my collection when I switch. D90 to D700 is a good improvement, but the question is always do you need it.

I know, there are also 3rd party lens and the older Nikon lens like the 80-200 f2.8, 28-70 f2.8. But these lens are also expensive, although not as expensive as the current trinity. But when it comes to performance and IQ, I still think the current trinity is still the best.
