Hi guys, could use some help here.
Just received a 8" dome port today, but the port body extension is firmly stuck together! Any useful suggestions how to separate the 2? I tried various ways and means, but they seem to be welded together. ![]() thanks in advance!! |

it comes fixed together? mine was separate. it takes quite a bit of effort to screw it on. Ivan taught me his method and it works pretty well for me. fix the dome onto the housing and use it as a base to screw on or unscrew the dome from the port body.

Since when I taught you that? I taught you to use your tighs to clamp onto the dome while using two hands inserted into the extension to unscrew it. Always a challange to unscrew it.. virgin as they say..it gets easier after awhile with technique. |

i tried to do that too but the port locks are starting to deform. i must have used too much force. haha wouldn't want my dome port staring at me and floating around during my first dive if the port locks fail..

i bought a used set..so the previous owner must have either screwed it on too tight, or left it there after his dives. sigh.
i've tried almost everything people suggested online, but no success. any other good ideas? ))= |

Spray WD-40 or pour use vinegar to where the screw threads, let it settle for a while befor you try to unscrew it.
Hope it helps.... But it's messy after that and have to clean the port.....good luck!

thanks for the offer ivan...will definitely take you up on that!
and thanks to the others who chipped in as well. one question: how will vinegar help? i'm a little hesitant to use WD40 as i'm not sure how it will react with the o-rings and acrylic...imagine having to clean the residue from the inside of the port! *faint* |

Hi,
Since the ikelite 8" is all non metal, the traditional ideas like warm water and the WD-40/Vinegar trick probably wont work. What you need is a strap wrench. Google it up and maybe improvise with an old belt. Good luck. Eudon |

I had tried the strap wrench, it wont help ... there isnt enough grip to hold onto ... so far the best is to "kiap" between the legs .... was in ur shoes as well ...
maybe you like to apply some grease at the male and female threads b4 screwing in ....

So even if you manage to get it out,,you probably would not be able to use the port body...unless you want to double cross thread it again... |

Success!
I managed to separate the two lovers! Boss woke me up early in the morning, so vented my frustration on the port body. Take that, you filthy animal! First tried boiling it in hot water, but no luck. Then used a DIY strap wrench, and cow strength all come out Port killer kit Basically I took some spectra and twisted it around the port extension to tighten it..then used gloves to get a good grip. followed by bracing it with my feet. it slipped a couple of times and i was about to give up. then i tried one last time and the rope slipped like crazy. i was like, wtf! then i realised it was the port body moving! Close-up of the DIY strap wrench Thanks guys for all your help and suggestions! Much appreciated! Luckily it wasn't cross-threaded like what photosmart mentioned..phew! |

I dont quite like the order of the assembly of the dome port onto the housing ... wish it was as easy as the 6" dome ... anyone know the reason why they make it like this ...?

when i use the dome port, it's always a case of hope for the best, prepare for the worst..and keep my fingers and legs crossed. |

i would guess the problem lies with the shorter ports for the fisheye lens ... where you cannot secure the port locks had you install the port n dome together prior to assembly onto housing ..
