coz if i'm not wrong, if you use 17mm on a full frame camera, its wide enough already. but if you are using a 17mm on a dx camera, its not so wide. thats what i knew.

To me it is more a choice of whether you need to go any wider, the price, and whether u can stomach a protruding lens where u cannot fix a filter.
Of course for DX, there are wider DX optimised wide angle zooms . Ryan |

14mm is much wider compared to 17mm. For me, I play with my 11-16mm Tokina lens on DX format. This is actually 16.5mm. I prefer even wider.

Hi all, 14-24 gets dust @ faster rate than 17-35. So it needs m'tce to clean @ Nikon workshop than 17-35 which can use filter to protect dust. 17-35 is better in this respect.

Hm dust infront of the lens doesn't really appear on photo right unless you really close up the aperture to very small i.e. F22

i've gotten the 14-24 F2.8, really good and sharp lens! yes the only drawback of this lens is the size and the lack of ability to use filters, but image quality is outstanding with very good contrast, sharpness and colour.
That said, i'm actually tempted to do a trade for my 14-24 down to a 17-35 because although i am an ultrawide junky, i find the 16/17mm wide angle to be optimal, and 14mm although nice doesn't make too much diff from 17mm for me. 24mm for the long end is quite different from 35mm however. I used to be able to use the 16-35 on my canon full frame as a walkabout lens, but i find that with the 14-24, i don't find it to be a suitable walkabout lens on the d700 due to its size and lack of ability to use filters (to protect the front element) and the lack of zoom on the long end.
