If you really need a backup battery, get a 3rd party one to tie you over until you are able to get the LP-E6. It is not going to give you the battery indication but it can still provide emergency battery power. Other option will be to get the battery grip and use AA batteries as backup...

Stock for 5DMII accessories is kinda limited. If desperate, just get from shops where you'd never thought you'll be shopping at, like Lucky Plaza. Just make sure it's genuine and that the price should be between $115-$140. I did that for my battery grip and got a better price actually than elsewhere. The shop I went to was Southern Cross near McDonald's.

Heard from CP that the 3rd party batteries would require their own 3rd party charger.
That's sad, as the 3rd party batteries for the 40D, 50D and 5D could be charged using the original ones. |

alternative - if you really need it. Buy the battery grip. You can then use AA batteries. But the camera is a sucker. 6 batteries last about 500 shots. Wheres the original Canon can do ~1000 shots. So quite expensive, if you don't use rechargeable batteries

Allow me to post my mini review for this 3rd party battery, since i also cant find any detailed with picture bout the "no battery indicator" issue with the 3rd party battery
physical apperiance is the same.. ( obviously.... ) ![]() ![]() ----------cant communicate with the battery... ( no chip at the 3rd party, but u can still use it ) ![]() ![]() ----------as stated at the box, battery indicator is registered as empty I use the battery straight from the box and shot 10 high ISO pic and took 3 short video ( 10 sec each )... the battery still holds... charging now and will test it tomorrow... will keep you guys updated.... |
