I have a Olympus E410 with a 35mm Macro and a 14-42mm lens.
I also have a Fugifilm S2000HD that has a 15X zoom. I miss my zoom on my E410. What lense should I buy next for my E410? Thank you for the help. I'm a newbie. |

I need a lens to shoot birds in flight and far away boats.
I know I need a zoom but what should I get? I have around $400 to spend and I would like something with good glass and a decent zoom. I'm probably asking too much for the money I have. |

It depends on what you consider as good glass, but with a budget of $400 I would recommend the 70 - 300mm lens |

If you take pictures during the bright morning or afternoons, the 70-300 is actually a very good lens
it takes pretty sharp pictures when u stop down to about F8. But you'll need rather high shutter speed U can prob get it at around your budget in the buy and sell here if u wait most are going about 450...

I like to thank you for your help.
I was looking at the Olympus ZUIKO ED 40-150mm f/ 4-5.6 Lens. Sells for just over $300, but from what I read on here its a kit lens and not a very good one. Looks like I'll either buy a used 70 - 300mm or I'll wait until I can afford a new one. I saw them for $480 + tax. so I need $552. I'll have to buy allot of flowers for the little lady to explain that one lol. |

Ugh. There are ants on the flowers! She'll slap you for that =p
I think the 70-300 is the most versatile piece you can possibly get for that price range. It's easily my fave lens, and if I could keep only one lens, it'd be my 70-300. That said, the 50-200mm is also very good, and can be had for around 800-1000 for the non-SWD version. It's a lot faster, and might net you more keepers for birds in flight. |

depends on how discerning you are about image quality. it is a very good travel lense 10x zoom, 18mm is quite wide. I have it and keep it. It is my default travel lense (provided it is outdoor and during the day and it is bright)

hmm for me, im already trying my best to scrimp and save for the 50-200SWD to go with my E-3
time i upgrade my kit lens..mind its not the new kit lens but the old one that came with my e-300 back like 4years ago.. under olympus website its under archived products ![]() going to get the 25mm as my 1st macro lens then slowly save up for the 12-60 to replace my 14-45 and the 50-200 will replace my 40-150 good old school lenses have last me very long..but then time for them to retire ![]() |

I asked around about using the 70-300 with my Olympus E410.
The guy at the store told me that I might have problems with this lens because of no image stabilization on the cam. Is anyone here using this lens with a cam like mine or something without image stabilization that can give me some hope? I really want to get this lens but if its too much of a zoom for my cam maybe I should think of something different. |

I'm pretty sure you won't be disappointed by the 70-300, if you are good with long glass. Long glass requires some discipline, such as finding support for the rig, holding it properly while you're in a stable stance (or sitting), breath control, or good old fashioned tripods/monopods. That said, you'll be surprised at just how far you can reach with the 70-300. Remember that, natively, the lens is already going to zoom in closer than the 50-200 can. That gives you a rather nice range advantage. In fact, you may not even need to zoom in all the way for some subjects, and shoot at 200mm instead... =p

I would advise you to get the 50-200 if time and money permit.
I am totally in love with my 50-200's image quality and the versatility. Though the 70-300 is lighter and easier to carry around, its hunts quite a bit and thats not very preferable. That said it is a decent piece of glass and I still havent sold it. |

I know this might be a bad idea so I figure I would ask about it on here.
There is a store called: Black's They are selling the ZD 40-150mm lens for $99.99. That's $200 dollars off the original price. They only have one left and if I want to grab it I better do it fast. Is anyone out there using this lens and do you think its a good investment. I really need a telephoto lens and in 35mm terms this is a 80-300mm so should do me quite well. Since my cam doesn't have image stabilization I'm thinking it might be a wise choice. Please Let me know what I should do. |
