may be u wanna consider a RODe Podcaster or even a Samson Zoom H2 recorder. range from 300 to 450 as above. I'm not sure of cheaper solutions. Depends on the quality u r looking at. Condenser mics (powered) are usually better.

I think he is looking at mic attached to camcorder? Rode video mic or sennheiser mke 400 comes to mind.

To reduce background noise you need to get the mic closer to the subject. So any on-camera mic is not going to be ideal.

Hey guys...thanks ya!!!
erm...Mic attach to the Hot-Shoe on Camcorder?i nvr consider it...not really flexible at all. Will grab something like Short-Gun with Mini Jack (1/8 or 3.5mm) input. and the Mic might able to place at anywhere with Mic Stand as well... Wireless Clip Mic? i dont' think that's flexible enough so... What do you think? Cheap and Nice woh...seems not really easy to get one ya?!haaa... ![]() |

if main thing is the voice of the person speaking + some ambient sound, omnidirectional wireless clip on mic might be a good option.

you can try those lapel mikes used for interview. if stationary, even outdoors, a wired version is good enough. unless you have someone to monitor your audio coming in wirelessly, you will be better off doing wired. no chance of interference.

his camcorder may not have xlr input. Running a long unbalanced cable may not be a good idea.

mactreouser - it would help if you made known what's the camera model you're using, whether there's a microphone input and how big/what type it is.
I just bought an Audio Technica ATR55 shotgun mic recently, it's $119. 3.5mm connector with a 2.5mm adaptor plug. (google for more info) |

Let you in on an industry secret. There's a mic from UK that has virtually no background/ambience noise. Its like recording in a soundproof studio! Only one of its kind in the world. Invented in 1950s for sports and truf club venues and still used today by BBC, CNN, NBC. Last seen on a helicopter footage from Iraq. No problem with rotor and wind noise!! The mic is the Coles Electroacoustic Commentator Lip Mic. Bought mine years ago at Hung Brothers for around $800. Haven't seen it since in the shop.
