Yes, Ching Jing (清境）is in Taichung... You can get there by bus after alighting at Taichung High Speed Train station (台中高铁站）。 you can find plenty of backpacker information from this site:http://www.backpackers.com.tw/guide/...87%91%E9%A6%AC. Just use its google search seen its home page and type in 台中 高铁 清境草原 客运.

I was there the year before you went in Dec also, but was quite disappointed cause very little roaming sheeps!
 The grass then was still greenish but NO SHEEPS!!!
