Default 5D2 Underexposed?

I have been shooting with 5D2 with the 24-105mm and 70-200mm. I realised that for indoor shots, it is a tad underexposed est -1/3 to -2/3 EV. Just curious, is it a common thing with 5D2 or it is just my set?

Care to share your experience or thoughts on this please.

PS: Highlight Tone Priority and Auto Lighting Optimizer are disabled.

If taken under normal settings or the EV pointing at 0, the 5D series does underexpose a little bit. Reason, for correcting the rest during post-processing.

If it's consistently under, then you may send to Canon for calibration. They can calibrate it to +1/3-+2/3 according to your preference.

But if it's just indoor, and you knew it then just at +1/3.That's it.

If it intentionally shoots underexposed, correcting in post will bring up the shadow detail, which in turn will bring up the noise. I doubt, though for the stellar qualities of the 5D's noise control, that Canon would do that intentionally.

All my run-ins with the 5D and 5DII have consistently shown that its auto-exposure is quite accurate under normal circumstances. We do not know if you are consistently shooting in tricky situations that may fool the camera's AE, but try spot metering and performing AE lock, just to see if it is a matter of Evaluative metering being fooled, or a consistent exposure bias.

Why are you so sure it is under exposed?

A fellow 5D2 user said so too, he now set EV to +1/3. I posted to see if there are more users having this experience. I am a bit lazy when it comes to PP, just want to let the camera do as much of the work as possible.

Agreed on the first para, don't like noise. So best to correct as much as possible when shooting.

I think I am more tolerant when it comes to outdoor when the lighting is better. Will shoot more and if confirmed it is underexposed I may just bring in to CSC. Thanks for advising that the metering can be tweaked at CSC.

It is based on feedback from frens that pix are a tad on the dark side.

Will shoot more with it to be surer.

Thanks all for the post. In the mean time, if anyone who has used the 5D2 a lot and has some experience/opinion on this. Please do share yr thoughts here. Cheers.

I mean under by a bit, not a lot.
