Default 450D focus screen

Somehow my focus screen got dirty, so I tried cleaning it with some cotton swabs after the blower failed: made it worse and seems like I may have left some permanent scars on it

How much does a new focus screen cost? I saw OP selling some but I'm not sure if its for the 450D. Seems like on the Internet only those with 40D and above change the focus screen.

How exactly do we clean the focus screen? I was pretty delicate and still managed to scar it. Use lenspen?

Well, I had exactly the same problem as you on my 1000D and tried to clean it with cotton buds.Guess what...i ended with a screen that's not only scratched and even my focusing red dots sort of like disappeared! I ended up in CSC and they had to replaced the screen. We are not supposed to touch the screen! Blow it and even if there's dust on it doesn't matter cos it won't affect the pic cos it's just a screen. I learnt a lesson but luckily it's under warranty but still had to pay like $25 cos it's self inflicted! Hope yours under warranty!!!

At least my focus dots are still working. Just a large scar at the bottom that annoys me.

$20+ at CSC inclusive of labour. Sometimes that $20+ just pay to feel more shiok, else look at the scar everytime u take pic can be damn sian. CSC told me, small thing, can try to do on the spot.

I had the same issue on my 30D.
As it was out of warranty, I got it fixed for $58. $20 was labour, the rest of the $38 were for parts.
Superbly clean after that.

So if we have to clean it and don't fancy paying CSC, how do we do it?

as suggested by a reply above, maybe you want to consider getting a compress air can and try blowing off with the can, may works.....
