Hello fellow snappers,
I am a canon 400d user with tamron 17-50mm lens and i am really satisfied with this lens, however i always thought that it would be perfect if it had image stabliser, but the additional $600 for canon 17-55mm IS is not justifiable for me. Yesterday it came across my mind if i swap over to sony A200 and then it would be perfect! It costs around the same for the 400d and A200 in B&S. Would like to ask any A200 users here did the same thing or used these 2 cameras before? In terms of specifications i prefer A200 but how does the image quality and noise compared? Furthermore another very good reason is I can get KM 70-210 f/4 for just $350 compared to canon L telephoto which cost $1k more! |

Yea should have choose the system carefully in the first place because i wont be upgrading to FF anytime soon so 17-50 + entry level is enough for me. I dont think I will lose much 400d body can sell $~500 and A200 body cost < $600... So.... Should I? =D

Another proven case that Sony is not that expensive as compared to the other camps.
![]() In terms of noise, Sony will not be able to match Canon, but the colour from the sensor is superb, which is why I always prefer a CCD vs the CMOS. I have a KM 5D, 7D and a A700 and I used my 2 KM cams more than my A700 although my A700 has better noise control since it's using the CMOS sensor too. Anyway noise is not an issue to me as I don't really use high ISO. IMO, if you need to shoot in high ISO and want cleaner images, stick to Canon and live with what you have, otherwise, you are always welcome to join the Sony user's club. ![]() For image quality, you can always check the thread which shows photos taken by Sony cameras in this sub forum.

Thanks for the replies! Yea i don't mind a bit more noise and top up a bit $$ for IS on ALL lenses..lol. would be a good long time investments! Sorry what's the main diff between ccd and cmos sensors? Cmos better noise control, CCD better colors? I primarily shoot landscapes(with a tripod) and general travel photography.. So IQ and color will be more attractive than noise levels. Furthermore with added camera body IS i can use lower ISOs except stopping motion but i don't even stop motion that often in low light..

Read from somewhere that the built-in stabliser is more effective for wide angel lens than tele lens. Is that still true? |

I think, I saw somewhere in B&S that A200 + Kit lens is less than 700 SGD. If you budget is low, you can even look out for A100. It should be a lot cheaper than A200, and can also produce nice result.
There is a new review about A100 with the latest firmware update (1.04): http://www.alphamountworld.com/revie...-v1.4-firmware All Sony DSLR has SSS (IS in camera body). |

Hi bro, if you have no intention of going full-frame in the future, Olympus is also a very good brand to consider too! Cathay's prices for E-3 is certainly competitive when compared to A700, you may even have a hard time deciding too haha. Just my point of view.

Olympus system is good but the sensor size is too small (2X crop factor) the noise will be more pronounce.
