Default AF & Metering settings - 450D

Hi CSers,

Just wondering wat are the settings that most of you use for AF (1 or 9 points), Metering (Evaluative, Partial, Spot or Centre Weighted)?
Also wat Picture Styles and any changes to the options (Sharpness, Color Saturation etc)?

I noticed that for Canon body, the photos taken are not as "contrasty" and "colorful" (saturated) as Nikon's.

I shoot in RAW and had to edit all my shots using DPP.

Please learn about the basics of photography, then you will understand when to use what settings. AF points are adjustable - it is advisable to use one instead of letting the camera jump to whatever seems promising to the chips inside. Metering depends on your subject and light conditions. For you average daylight image you are well off with Evaluative. Your manual (found it?) will give you examples about the other metering methods.
Picture Styles are nothing but pre-defined jpg conversion settings. Use them when you shoot in jpg (in-camera processing) or when you use DPP and like to have something preset. Other RAW converters (e.g. Adobe) cannot recognize the Picture Styles.
Your comparison to Nikon is flawed since you don't compare under equal conditions. Set the Nikon and Canon cam both to neutral jpg settings (no picture style or other things), then compare again. Beside this: what sense does the comparison make once you start editing your pictures anyway?
Sounds as if you complain about the editing in RAW? Poor chap In earlier days one had to send the films to lab and could complain only some days later. No you can complain immediately
My suggestion: simplify and read! No point jumping around between all the features without proper basic knowledge. Set your cam to jpg, use some Neutral settings, evaluative metering and go on shooting. And maybe along the practicing you'll notice that some features are really useful and others are simply redundant. Keep in mind: Canon wants to make photography look easy to attract buyers. That's the reason for certain features.
