I have used the Nikon Coolpix 8700, Fuji FinePix 9600 Sony H5 and Sony R1 before. They are all very good cams which can take hotshoe flash. If you don't mind a 2nd hand one, these are the ones you can add to your consideration list.

If you want something smaller, the Sony V3 is pretty solid too. Otherwise, like what bro navlem mentioned, wait for the Sony HX1

    Canon SX1IS, Powershot G10.
Panasonic LX3 and G1 (sort of in the middle of a semi-pro and dSLR but best noise performance caompared to the other 3).

in terms of noise performance, i believe the LX3 edge out the G10...but in terms of zoom-wise, LX3 lose out in this section.

Ah, Joe, mistaken, the TS thread is... Best Semi-Pro camera, that's what he is looking for, you have correctly guide him to whatever he think's best. As we all know, the 'best' doesn't exist, only the 'better' will come next.
    Or he
Can always do some searching on the net on digital camera review then settle on the price range and narrow down to a few important feature which must have and then go get it.
there also some sticky post here on Prosumer camera, can always read up to have a better understanding.

If you want RAW, then get the 'bigger brother' of SX10IS -- the SX1IS.

The in depth review just posted in DPreview
    http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/canonsx1is/

I think the price is around 850 now?

Anyway, according to the review, it is not as good as SX10IS, especially it comes with higher price...

Well... to all who criticise me.. My aim is to seek advice on which semi-pro camera
is the best.. I may mislead you in saying 'BEST' but honestly i just wanted advices on which cam to get..
I am pretty sure, lots of other newbies, who is seeking for a camera, would GOOGLE, "best semi-pro cameras" or "top ten semi-pro cameras"..

That is what i did first before starting this thread.

    So please think before offending..

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

To all who gave sincere advices, thank you so much.. I have narrowed down the choices of it and decided to get the canon SX10is... SX1is is not worth it.. Its almost similar to SX10is. Lots of good reviews about this camera, and none of you who owns this camera, has bad reviews about it.

Thank you to all.. i realy appreciate it..

Thus, im closing this thread to avoid more unwanted comments...

    Thanks all..
