a shooting technique called panning, using low shutter speed to capture fast moving object by tracking it for the duration of the open shutter so as to motion blur the background....

r u doubting the skill of the photographer by asking tat?

Question

Hm... would like to ask how panning is done in actual? Is it simply experiences according to the shutter speed and you rotate your camera as your eyes follow the subject?

Thanks for any teaching

Hi shorty, panning is basically using the camera to track the subject movement and following thru whilst pressing the shutter. Do not use too high a shutter speed else you will freeze everything. Use about 1/60, 1/45. Generally, the faster shutter speed u use, the easier it is to get a sharper pic, at the expense of lessening the "motion effect".

Here is a more in-depth explanation of panning shots that you may like to read: http://www.md-sulhan.com/tips3.html. However, it applies more to using a DC (as opposed to a SLR type cam) to take such shots.

With some practise and a little luck, you should be able to capture some good moments

Hope it helps.
