Default Safe!! Blackrapid FastenR on D700

    Hi,

I had a chat this morning with a technical person in Nikon this morning, on the construction of the base and tripod thread of Nikon camera. It is confirm that the base, is made of a solid metal with thread made into it, and the base is screwed onto the body. This will be able to support the Blackrapid FastenR.

Now, if you use the D-ring of Manfrotto, it is questionable, as you know sometimes you might losen the D-ring, and the plate might fall off, so need to recheck often. The D-ring looks and feel thin, unlike the FastenR, so you might get the "will it fall off thinking". If your gear is D700 + Nikkor 50 mm f/1.4 quite safe. But not Nikkor 24-70 mm lens or those lens over 900 grams, chances that you might losen the D-ring.

Let's start continue this thread, with the types of combinations you have on FastenR.

To begin: I am on 24-70 mm (weigh 900 grams + for lens)

    Regards,
    Bernard

It is safe. I am using it on 5D2+24-105mm at lengths during walk abouts.

Yes, BlackRapid + FastenR, can withstand. I wouldn't take the risk for d-ring.

I use the strap with my Alpha 700 with vertical grip and 70-200/2.8. No problem, although it's a good habit to check on the locking screw once in a while. It may come a little loose after a while, but generally it does feel secure.

The only issue I have with the Black Rapid system is that it becomes very awkward when you're trying to use the vertical grip when the camera is in portrait position.

I've used BlackRapid RS-4 with the following attached: Canon 40D + BG-E2N + EF 24-105 + 580EX II. Admittedly was cautious for a while but it didn't disappoint. Now am pretty confident with it.

Was a little worried too when I tried it with 70-200 IS + 580II. Well, even with hood on, R4 makes it easy still, walk in peace. I wont hestitate to get another R4.
