How about shoot landscaope then crop it to portrait?
![]() Should work fine unless you really need the extra megapixels ![]() |

I used the cardboard at the back of foolscap papers as a base, and pasted white printing paper over it.
Would use it as a reflector towards the ceiling whenever I shot portrait with SB-400, so far so good ![]() On a sidenote, if you're near a wall when you're taking portrait shots, the reflected light from the side would also serve as a bounce surface and the picture would also have the same pleasant bounce flash feeling. Side shadows haven't been a problem for me, only blinding people beside me ![]() |

I want sb-400 for the small weight. shooting weddings and carry a heavy lens + a body + grip + a heavy flash with 4 batteries is wearing me out for one whole day..
want to have a minimalist approach to shooting. d300 body, no grip + a small 17-50 tamron + sb-400 feels very comfortable for the whole day. only PROBLEM i am having with this setup is no swivel for the flash. |

If you really want better pics with proper fill and ability to bounce and have good refresh rates, then you'd need a good flash like SB-800 |

a flash bracket and ttl cable will solve your problem but that will not fit into your minimalist approach.

I'm certain there are small brackets that'll do just fine.

Use a flash bracket that rotates the camera rather than the flash.

if the TS wants to stay light with the sb400, but if not, get a flash that can swivel will of course be a better choice.
