good day to all, am using hvl-f58am flash unit, been happy with it till i encountered a 'small' problem.
it seems the flash has ADI capabilities which according to what i've googgled so far means, exposures would be more accurate than ttl when shooting on/against reflective surfaces. However, i've tried and still got a very underexposed picture. so, questions is, is there anything that i should know of about adi and didnt ? or the conditions of the surrounding or which i am shooting in? in my case, it was very dark with lights from surrounding lamp posts. |

Does TTL gives better results for your case?

What lens did you used? Not all lenses are ADI compatible.

Did u use direct or bounce?
If direct, ADI will be better, if bounce, TTL. |

yah, it's the conducting officer, as for the manual, i will take time to read though carefully again,
was using direct flash with kit lens(18-70) at that time, and, a search through sony's website .. the kit lens is ADI compatible is there anything that i am missing out ? |

1. Did you set your flash on manual mode?
2. If Auto TTL, did you activate Manual Zoom on the flash? If 1, you need to increase the flash power. If 2, set it back to auto zoom or focal length of the lens, so that the flash will zoom with your zoom lens. I have this problem a few days back when I accidentally activate manual flash zoom. The Flash was lock at 85mm, all tele shots near 85mm were well expose, those wide angle shots were under exposed. Do double check. |

Hi,
Just try to shoot full auto in P mode with the flash, no bounce, just head on. If you still have exposure problems, try cleaning your contacts on the camera and flash shoe. If still persist - cant get prope exposure, then looks like something has gone bad. Send to svc centre. rgds, Sulhan

Will try the cleaning method first, strangely, this happened so far only on reflective vest/strips in my case. |

Hmmm. Are you in matrix or spot metering? If you think about it... Let's say in matrix mode the reflective vest reflects back enough light to make the camera meter think "enough lumens of light are reaching me, I'll turn down the flash". Spot metering on the non-reflective part should give totally different results.

Check the first few paragraphs of this article
http://www.photoclubalpha.com/2007/0...e-alpha-dslrs/ Your problem is very similar to what described there. |

problem described is exactly the same that happened and the solution so far is to shoot in raw/use bounce flash |

Okay,
Look like the ADI is at work here. Can you take a shot of the subject away more than metres. Just to see the results.
