Hi all,
F1 race is in September this year 25th - 27th. Please visit http://www.singaporegp.sg/index.php for the details. Any idea on which part can have some shoot with walkabout tickets? under the FAQ, mentioned that concrete will about 1 metre & upper part will wire mesh. Do you this is is kind of obstruction for photo shooting? Please share all of your idea or experience at here. Cheers.... |

I also plan to go F1 2009 this year.
Can a 70-210mm telephoto lens do? Or need longer range? I planning to get 3 day walkard pass which is at $168. |

For walkabout, you will need at least 200mm, preferably 300-400mm, to shoot through the fences

Should be going this year too. For Grandstand, I think you might need even more zoom than walkabout, at least for bay grandstand, that's the case.
Frankly I kinda think that buying walkabout is better than the grandstands, unless of course it's pit's grandstand, then different. |

yeah actually i prefer walkabout as well....just worry about the fence....any technique to shoot for this event? stay near (as near as possible) to the fence n shoot or keep some distance (like about 1-3 metre) from the fence?
according to the website mentioned, walkabout can as close as about 4 metre from the F1... |

max zoom is 300mm...last year i saw ppl's lens being checked and any lens over 300mm will not be allowed. only official PGs with the vests can cross the concrete and use any lens...saw quite a few using 400mm or even 500mm...
the fence is a problem as well. even doing pan might not help as the horizontal fence can still be seen. last yr i got pass so i could cover all walkabout areas (including grandstands but not cross the concrete) and i feel that grandstands can shoot better without the fence (if your location is high enough) but u need longer zoom (at least 200mm)...walkabout can shoot from different locations but u need to be early to get a good spot. if u get grandstand tickets you can only shoot from your seat... i believe this year the organisers would have learnt from mistakes can covered some areas where there's human jam...last year some places where you can view on fri is covered on sat onwards to prevent ppl from stopping there to watch...

Not sure if you are referring to the first day..I have no problem bringing in my 120-400 on 2nd and 3rd day (I didnt bring it on first day)..no problem when i re-enter at different gates. Maybe those who got stopped brought in >300 which are prime lens ?? these are generally larger than telezooms

1st day when i went in before noon (pass holders can go in earlier) my gear was checked...since my longest is 300mm i had no problem...mine was 28-300...they will see the number on ur lens lor... oh ya...my 300mm is F6.3 and very hard for me to take decent shots at the night races...could only take without motion blur for day races...so best if your zooms are better than mine...

This is what you get with 55-200 @ the Padang Grandstand straight. Notice the horizontal bars. With fast panning, I can get rid of the vertical bars, but the horizontal... no matter how you pan, it'll always be there cos its... welll.... horizontal!

I'm going for the the 3-day walkabout ticket.
To save all the trouble, bring at least one that can reach 200mm. And if you want to try your luck, maybe a longer at 300mm. Well, you can always add an extender. ![]()

last year, I used an old Canon 80-200mm 2.8 lens.
You have be close to the fences as possible to blur it out. |

Yup. The whole circuit is fenced up as it's a street circuit.

Grandstands tickets except Bay Grandstand aka Floating Platform will start on 9th April. Single-Day tickets are only available on Singtel Roadshows from 10 to 19 April at Early Bird prices and if there's remaining tickets, it will be released to be sold on SISTIC and its partners at the Regular prices from 20th April onwards. 50% of all allocated tickets are up for Early Bird prices. After which, will be sold at a price hike ranging from $20 to $200 depending on which ticket category you are buying.
