Wrong choice of words, I mean face-saving move.

Since they're unlikely to better the 15th place qualifying slot.

Hamilton moves to the back of the grid after a gearbox change.

While they could have just changed the gears in the box and not suffer a penalty, they have decided to change the whole gearbox and will start in #22 at the back.

I expect he will run a very long first stint, possibly even trying a 1-stopper.

Looks like Brawn is going to challenging for first place and podium for at least the next few races, but Ferrari should be challenging again very soon. McLaren will be a bit slower in catching up since they concentrated all their resources last year in developing their 2008 car all the way till the last race.

Pre-race weights - Brawn not running light

For the 2009 season, the FIA are making public the weights of all cars ahead of the race start to help give an idea of relative fuel load. The cars that made Q3 are weighed after qualifying, while the weights of the remaining cars must be declared by their teams shortly after the session. The details from Melbourne show that Brawn GP were not running light, despite their impressive pace.

The weights, sorted by grid order, are:

    1. Jenson Button, Brawn GP, 664.5kg
    2. Rubens Barrichello, Brawn GP, 666.5
    3. Sebastian Vettel, Red Bull, 657
    4. Robert Kubica, BMW Sauber, 650
    5. Nico Rosberg, Williams, 657
    6. Felipe Massa, Ferrari, 654
    7. Kimi Raikkonen, Ferrari, 655.5
    8. Mark Webber, Red Bull, 662
    9. Nick Heidfeld, BMW Sauber, 691.5
    10. Fernando Alonso, Renault, 680.7
    11. Heikki Kovalainen, McLaren, 690.6
    12. Nelson Piquet, Renault, 694.1
    13. Giancarlo Fisichella, Force India 689
    14. Kazuki Nakajima, Williams, 612.5
    15. Sebastien Buemi, Toro Rosso, 675.5
    16. Adrian Sutil, Force India, 684.5
    17. Sebastien Bourdais, Toro Rosso, 662.5

It sure looks like Ferrari was running light on fuel to try to match the pace of the frontrunners

Brawn looks very impressive. Wonder how well they will actually do in the race. I think Ferrari will struggle for the 1st few races, hopefully they will pick up after a couple of races.

I can hear the faint groan of some high ranking Honda exec committing seppuku.

Brawn has got the best looking cars in the grid. In my opinion, if it looks good, it will race good! The nose of their car slopes further down than the rest. Din take a look at the controversial rear diffusers thou.

Seems like the fast cars are the ones with the controversial rear diffusers; Williams, Brawn and Red Bull?

Hope Ferrari will catch up later in the season. Dun think they can match the fast cars in this race.

Red Bull is not part of the controversy. the other team is Toyota.

A HUGE CONGRATS to BRAWN GP!!! A true fairy tale finish!!!

In contrast, Ferrari looks like a rolling circus. Reliability and team strategy issues plaguing all over. I guess that's what happens when ego gets the better of common sense. Want an ALL ITALIAN TEAM? Go start a restaurant. For racing, they should've stuck with Ross Brawn, THE ARCHITECT OF SUCCESS!!!

And oh yes, Hamster is a conniving lucky bast@rd.
