Seems to be a good lens according to the specs (Internal focusing, f2.0, full time manual focusing etc) but the minimum focusing distance of 100mm means I can't use the Raynox DCR250 on this lens...

I think this lens nicely can be used as a macro and double up as a good low light portraits lens...

Focusing at 1:1 doesn't affect aperture in any way. As Lexar said, largest u can go is f/2.

Yes and no. There is actually light loss from focusing closer, and as you get closer to 1:1, you do lose a fair bit of light. The Nikon system actually accounts for how much light you lose as you focus closer, thus showing you a different aperture reading as you get closer.

I never said you couldn't. It's just that with the effective aperture reading, it is easier for you to do so.
