Default Tripod as monopod?

I was wondering how many of you actually use a tripod as a monopod also? Does it work better, not so good, or almost the same? Or is a monopod more convenient and faster to setup?

why not? mine are practically feet of steel.

monopods are great when you need flexibility of movement with some stabilisation.
