Hi as per title, does any bros and sisters here do approach a stranger and asked them if its ok to get a snapshot of them? Be it a hunk or a xmm.
What is usually their reaction? Do you take a shot, show, say thank you and move on? Does your approach usually receive more rejection then acceptance? How do you say it to them that you would like to get a snap of them without having them having a twisted thought of you? I'm sorry if that is alot of question. I am just curios on how some photographers can take a picture of a stranger with them willingly posing for the camera. Thank you in advance for sharing your experience. ![]()

sometimes you ask, sometimes its models.
during IT show,i do ask them if i can take their pics. takes a lot of courage as its very crowded... kena turn down embarassing, however, i did say when i take their pic, i give them my contact too, not to get to know them , but in case they want their photos. fair deal right ? they allow u to take their pic, you trade back by at least giving them back what you took |

When travel, just approach the subject and smile to them, show them your cam, if they react very quickly and shaking their hands asking you not to do, you better don't.
If they smile back, then you may just take.. As a tourist, sometimes you just can get some 'exception'... |

when u travel, say in japan, would the japanese be more amenable to having their photos taken as opposed to, say singaporeans or malaysians?
i know from experience in malaysia, even looking at them abit longer than usual will have them look back threateningly liou, don talk about using a camera...so... any tips in approaching? other than the smiling part. need to 'bong chang' their store or not if the sell stuffs...for example?

For the kind of shots I want to do, I do not ask, since I am really not into taking posed shots.
Spoils the spontaneity of the moment. As for being reprimanded, it is part and parcel. Ryan |

I just aim, shoot and move. I rarely even make eye contact. Haha, chop chop.

So i guess that many a times.. its usually a no no from subjects that you wish to shoot by asking. Looks like sniping is still the best option. Any other suggestions from season potrait shooters?
This is not because of any ill intention, but just something you see and you like and you want to shoot.

Streetshooting, I usually ask if I want eye contact. As for legality, I think everyone's fair game if you're in public space.

again the illegal issue here. It's not going to be illegal if you shot and the fella you shot just ignore it. It will be illegal if you shot and that fella approach you to delete your photos but u ignore it...
