Question Tokina Servicing / Repair

Hi all,

Wondering if anyone has any experience with Tokina product in Singapore from Cathay Photo?

My Tokina ATX124 Pro (12-24) just developed constant err99 symptom (aperture frozen when err99 occur, tried the standard battery and contacts tricks but doesn't help) on my 20D today after trouble free usage for the past 1 1/2 year. It was bought in sept 07. Not too sure if its still under warranty by Cathay Photo and if its, without a receipt (couldn't find it as it was so long ago) would Cathay honor the warranty?

Repair wise, anyone care to share their experience? Type of problem encountered with Tokina Product? In warranty? Cost? Time taken?

Hi seems the problem may not be with the lens. Trying upgrading the firmware of the camera.

I recently asked Cathay abt Tokina lenses warranty. Was told that without the receipt, the warranty will not be valid.

Just to share my recent experience., which promopted me to start this thread.

I called up Cathay to enquire about sending in my tokina for repair. They ask if i have the receipt and i told them franky that i have misplaced it somewhere. The lady told me in that case, if the lens serial number is in their system, they will still honor the warranty. However, that warranty starts from the day it was dispatched to the shop and not when it was sold to the end user.

When i went down that day, they check and my lens was actually dispatched to the shop in july 2007. I bought it in Sept 2007. In sense, i lost 3 months of warranty. Still it is better then no warranty as I can't find the receipt.

On the actual repair. It takes under a week for my case for the repairs to be done.

OMG i got the SAME problem. but it's err 01. it complains about the contact with the lens.
But i can confirm it is the lens problem.
I bought it about the same time as you. I think this batch of lens got some defect!

Another CSer, who faced the same problem, shared with me that the repair cost is about $70-80.
