Hello gents,
Wondering whether anyone here knows whether adding a Circ Pol filter to the 77mm diam Tokina 11-16mm lens will cause vignetting at wide open ? Appreciate comments & responses. Thanks !

You will see uneven polarizing due to UWA which may look like vignetting

That's true, but that's the best we can do. Unless CPLs are not used.

Hoya. But if u've a lot of cash to spare, then get B+W.

If you don't stack the CPL onto the UV, a normal CPL will suffice. You won't need to splurge on a slim filter. I've used a regular CPL on a Sigma 10-20 without any mechanical vignetting.

My case is quite sad. Took out the UV filter and fix up the CPL, still experience mechanical vignetting. Guess I need to get a slim one...

Does that mean its dependent on individual copy of the lens?
And before buying I shd try which one doesnt give vignetting? with a cpl filter?

from my opinion, i guess every copy of 11-16 shld be the same. Just the difference between CPL. So shld pay more attention on purchasing the CPL that suits.
Can anyone correct me if im wrong... Thanks!

I use the Cokin P filter system and so for ND and IR filters, so the need for the wide angle holder: I have the normal 3 filter holder which vignettes for UWA lens. This is available at CP if you're interested. The sales persons there can explain how this is used. I use GND8 soft, ND2, ND4, ND8, IR + some other coloured grad filters from Cokin. Hope this helps ?

Having the slim type is always a safer way to prevent any vignetting on UWA lenses. Best is to try them out when u purchase cos for some, the standard CPL is enough.

True, go try with your exact setup. Better and don't need to overspend if you don't need the slim... price diff quite a bit....
