Upgrading to d700!

Hi everyone, need your views as I'm buying a d700,
I need to know if I use a tamron 28-75mm on the d700 will it be wider or narrower than
Compared to using a 18-55mm on my 400d?
I'm not sure of the calculations! Hope someone can help?

On the 400D, the 18-55mm will appear approximately as if 28.8mm - 88mm.
( which is approximately as wide , and slightly more telephoto compared to the 28-75mm on an FX camera )

400D crop factor is 1.6x

I think u get the same angle of view. at most if u print the photo (4R or 5R) out the different is 1mm along the edge of the photo lol

not sure how accurate the canon crop factor of 1.6 is, i know only that my D80's crop factor is stated as 1.5x but i found out the actual was 1.45x

so 18 x 1.6 = 28.8 but i believe canon and nikon does the same in rounding up their crop fact to 1 decimal place for easy calculation so, in actual fact your 400D with 18-55mm should have a view angle of approx 28mm at its widest

The crop factor can be calculated based on Canon's APS-C sensor. Nikon's APS-C sensor is slightly bigger.

Any further doubts TS can refer to the 400D manual page 172 under " Image Conversion Factor ", and some calculations on 52, and 166.

mmmmm.... i think you should probably just stick to what you are using now because you don't even know the simple calculation for the crop factor? unless you have too much money, then yeah, help boost the economy. thank you for that

you're probably right, but i need a second body, one that has a better af system especially in low light ! so i don't struggle that much( like with the 400d) ! anyway i have intention of upgrading to full frame sooner or later( didn't think that it would be this soon!), so thats why i need some advice on the right combination before i jump in!

probably Tamron 28-75mm, i know cheap glass! expensive body !(no choice budget constrain), hope fully to get better lens next time!

Long story short, had problems with the 400d with kit lens, but works great with the 50mm f1.8, went 4 or 5 times to the service center but they said "maybe i'm still new and can't handle the camera!" by the supervisor, so i went to borrow a d300 with a Tamron 17-50mm all my camera issues went a away, everyone was happy and i got paid for that job.
So since d700 & d300 are quite similar, i decided to jump to full frame instead(not an easy decision but i had to). Thats how this thread started!
My plan is to keep the 400d as a spare set & d700 as the main one!
Hope this plan works! (must stay posistive
Now should i get sb800 or sb900?
