dear all brothers,
I am soon going to a two weeks trip to europe so wish to mount a suitable CPL for my ZD 12-60 during this trip. Hopefully it has a nice sunshine weekend there. Anyway, i need yours advise and opinion, which suitable CPL should I get for this lens? Been consider nikon CPLII cost about $175 and B+W cost me a bigger wallet hole, $213 CP penisula just call today. Base on all brothers experience, are there any other choices which I miss out? i wish to get a suitable and not over price CPL ![]() need yours experience ![]() |

I would think the difference between the two would be minimal and for all practical purposes, not noticeable. The pictures would turn out more or less the same.
But the B+W is coated better and should withstand a little more abuse. Since the diff is around 25, take this as an investment and get the B+W. Cheers. |

I uses a Marumi filter. it is slimmer than the B+W normal CPL filters and about the same as the kassman series. best thing is, it is cheaper!
one thing i noticed is the Marumi CPL glass is closer to the front element of the lens when mounted. reduce the chance of vignetting. |

dear all brothers,
Thanks for many feedback from yours. I forgot to ask about vignetting issue, cause B+W CPL has two types, the usual one and slimmer type. Any brothers use normal type with ZD 12-60 and found vignetting problem? Currently on my ZD 12-60 front is B+W UV filter for months, so far i didn't observe any vignetting problem from pic to pic. Thus may be with normal thickness CPL it won't have any vignetting too, provided the thickness of UV is similar to CPL thickness, which i will need brothers opinion ![]() |

For me, it is always about buying the thinnest profile filters for my lenses whenever possible, and in the case of CPL, this might be shared among a few lenses so you will never know when you will need a lower profile one, so buy the lowest profile available.
You never know when you get another lens too, you know?

I use a slim CPL on my 12-60, no vignetting but do note that for slim filters, there is not enough allowance for you to put on the normal lens cap. However, slim filters usually come with some sort of push-on lens cover.

I'm not a woman, but this offends me...you may be offending people who may have a response for you.
How would you feel if a woman posts, "Dear all sisters"? Suggest in future you alter your salutation to something like "dear friends" or "dear fellow forum members", if you use one at all. Time to come into the 21st century. |

So probably i need to get the lower profile type or else if i pop the cpl on 50-200 + step up ring probably some vignetting will happen.

Are there any problems with vignetting on a 12-60 with B+W non-slim CPLs ? The price difference is not a deal-breaker, but just seems a hassle to have to deal with another lens cap when using the slim filter.

On hindsight, many times I realised I do not make use of my slim CPL on the 12-60mm. Very often, I find the Olympus cameras produced blues that are so rich that the use of the CPL for this purpose is not necessary. Of course there are many other uses of the CPL, but if it is to enhance the blue in the sky, then in my opinion, it is not necessary to use it on Olympus cameras.
I find a Graduated ND filter more useful and I actually use it more often.
