Hi,
Now that this lens is finally available, can anyone comment what's the best price available and its performance? Really like to know how it compares against the Canon and Nikon equivalents and if it has the focusing issues that plague the Sigma 30mm F1.4 EX DC HSM? Regards |

wow..the sigma compares really well to the nikon 24-70! looks like an extremely viable alternative lens to consider
Sigma has been shining recently with their newly issued len(s), looks like the next 2 len(s) on my buying list is the sigma 24-70 and the sigma 50mm f1.4 ![]()

From a news article at dpreview:
"Sigma has set the suggested retail price of the new 24-70mm f/2.8 EX DG HSM at £799.99. Initially announced at Photokina 2008, this HSM (Hyper Sonic Motor) lens will be sold alongside the current Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 EX DG. It will be available in Sigma, Nikon, Canon, Sony and Pentax mounts." So the official retail price in Sing dollars will be around $1750? |

Since the HSM model is so expensive, then take the non HSM. The vignette is visible at widest end. Use at least f5.6 from my experience with the non HSM model.
The zoom ring is opposite direction. Overall is a sharp lens. |

I see that sigma is trying to move up market. First they price their 50mm 1.4 higher than canon or nikon's 50mm 1.4 and now it seems like their 24-70 is also gonna cost more than the original brand.

I suppose the old model is good enough for me as an hobbyist/amateur. I definitely do not need the HSM feature for this lens as I do not do sports or other fast actions with this lens.
