Kit lens front element rotates so the hood is barrel type. I haven't seen any petal hood for them yet.

You cannot mount a petal hood on a lens which has the hood mount rotating. In this case, the hood mount and the front element rotate when focusing, so it uses a barrel hood.

This lens cant use petal hood, as you notice the front part rotates when you focus. So your petal will look weird, and it will not function as a correct petal hood. Your light will be blocked at weird angles.

No wonder my 450D's Kit lens have a bayonet petal hood, coz the front element does not rotate when focusing... thanks for the info...

I use the kit lens pretty frequently.
No need to hood, less even for any petal shape or whatnot.

Are u a new user? No offense, I am just guessing cos normally new users tend to look for petal shaped hoods for their kit lens.. something about petals looking pro perhaps.

Try to shoot more with it. It's great as it is.
