are u using a 1000D? i wanted to consider that lens .. but 28 is basically 46mm on a crop sensor like the 1000D and I went instead with a 17-70. have you taken a look at the 17-85?

its good .. check my flickr thread (http://flickr.com/netjackal) for what its worth. really convenient to have that range in one lens. Personally I am splitting the range in half so i get a little better performance at the wide range (which is where i shoot most of my shots anyway). I just got a 17-70 Sigma and am hoping to get something like a 55-250 or 70-200/300 (after selling the 18-200) to compliment that.

remember, whenever you zoom in to 300mm etc etc, there are bound to be camera shake. Think of the lens to be more sensitive when zooming in too much.

And i believe those prime lens with 300mm/400mm/500mm/ capabilities are the same too.

The only different between them, imho, they are able to focus faster than those of the zoom lens.

So Justin, in the meantime while saving up for your dream lens, do practice with your 70-300mm lens la. Try not to shake more.. hahha

And oh, if you can't master it, there's always a tripod to rely on and leaning against wall is a good idea too.

look at your lens. usually they will state the minimum length from you to the subject.
