Default Dust inside Lens - Is this common?

A friend showed me his lens last nite, and I saw a few very small specks of dust inside the lens. Is this common? How does one rectify these, and does it affect the results very much?

No worries. These little specks do not hurt the image quality. You scrutinise hard enough u can see them in some new lenses as well.

Both my 17-50 and 70-300 lens have a few small little dust specks in it but no impact on my pictures.
